Has Omni food been analysed to ensure it's got the nutrients dogs need to thrive?

Has Omni food been analysed to ensure it's got the nutrients dogs need to thrive?

We routinely batch test our food post production to make sure it has all the nutrients its meant to have, as stipulated by FEDIAF –  if anything is low or high, we adjust to correct. This is not a legal requirement, and most brands do not do this, but as a vet and health focused brand, this is something we place a great importance on and have prioritised.

Why?

Surprisingly, it is not currently required for pet foods to analyse their foods for completeness after production. This can lead to some issues as a lot of pet foods are formulated by computer analysis of the ingredients going in, which isn’t always the same as the nutrient content after cooking. Additionally, changing ingredients based on price or what’s readily available can change the nutrient content of the food. That’s why at Omni all ingredients are kept the same (fixed formula) as to avoid the nutritional deficiencies that may come with swapping ingredients in and out (it also has benefits for dogs with sensitive tums and allergies). Considering these points and that a staggering study from 2017 showed that 94% of wet foods and 61% of dry foods sold in the U.K. were not nutritionally complete (1), we wanted to be sure to take the relevant steps to ensure that everything that a dog needs to thrive is in our delicious Omni recipes.

What does it mean?

‘Nutrients’ covers a whole host of different things that dogs need to survive and thrive, and they need to be present in certain quantities. Examples of these nutrients are amino acids (the different blocks that make up protein, minerals like iron and calcium, and fatty acids. A full comparison of Omni’s food can be found in the below graphics.

If you have any further questions about our food or its contents, feel free to reach out on woof@omni.pet and we’d be happy to answer your questions.
