FAQs - Allergies and Sensitivities
Yes! Omni was specifically created for dogs with food sensitivities. Our novel protein recipes are free from the most common allergens: chicken, beef, dairy, grain, and soya. This makes our food ideal for elimination diets.
Novel proteins are protein sources that dogs rarely encounter in typical diets, meaning they’re unlikely to have developed sensitivities to them. We use proteins from plants, yeasts, and algae - ingredients your dog’s immune system won’t recognise as threats.
Many pet parents report seeing improvements in skin, coat, and digestion within 4-6 weeks. However, every dog is different. For best results, feed Omni exclusively (including treats) for at least 8 weeks.
Absolutely. Omni contains zero chicken, beef, lamb, or any other common meat proteins. Our recipes are specifically designed to avoid these common triggers.
The most common triggers are chicken, beef, dairy, wheat, and soya. These proteins appear in the majority of commercial dog foods, which is why dogs develop sensitivities over time through repeated exposure. Many of Omni’s recipes avoid all five.
Yes, food allergies can develop at any age. A dog that’s eaten the same food for years can suddenly become sensitive to an ingredient. This is why novel protein diets - using protein sources your dog hasn’t been exposed to - can be effective even for dogs that haven’t had allergy issues before.
Food allergies typically cause year-round symptoms: itchy skin, ear infections, digestive issues, and paw licking. Environmental allergies (pollen, dust mites) tend to be seasonal. If symptoms persist regardless of season, food is more likely the cause. An elimination diet is the gold standard for confirming food allergies.
For dogs with protein sensitivities, plant-based food removes the most common triggers entirely. Since Omni uses novel plant proteins that dogs rarely encounter in meat-based diets, the immune system is far less likely to react. Many vets now recommend plant-based diets as part of elimination protocols.
Start with the food - switching to Omni’s hypoallergenic recipes addresses the root cause by removing common allergens. Once your dog has been on the food for 4-6 weeks, you can add targeted supplements (Irritates Skin or Pre/Probiotics) if needed. Tackling both symptoms with food alone is common.
